The Department of Commerce Department came into existence in the year 2005 with the enrolment of 22 students in the stream B.Com Co-operation. Ms Laveena was in charge of the department in the year of establishment. B.Com with Co-operation optional was changed to B.Com with Computer Application in 2007. The department was elevated in status with the sanctioning of M.Com with Finance. A year after. B.Com Co-operation was also added to the bouquet of programmes offered when it was re introduced in the year 2013.B.Com with Finance was also added in the year 2020.

       Thankachan P V assumed the post of the HOD of Commerce Department and discharged his duties as faculty and Head during the period 2006 – 11. Dr.T.Vasudevan took over the charge from Thankachan P V in 2012 and was in service till in 2014. Then it was the turn of Dr.P.I.Laila, former HoD of Commerce, Sir Syed College to lead the commerce faculty in the period 2015 – 19. To administrate the department more effectively two sectional HODs were appointed in the year 2019. Ms.Shybi Joseph and Ms.Sheena K were put in charge of the programmes Computer Application and Co-operation respectively. Ms.Reena Rani K was given the Headship in June 2020. Ms.Sheena K remains as the sectional HOD of the Co-operation wing. At present the department is operating in its full capacity with about 440 students and 13 faculty members.

       Department with an external tie-up provides two add-on-courses, namely, Communicative English and Tally and HRM (in association with CADD Institute) for 2 years from 2018.From 2022 Tax Study Centre is providing an add-on-course “Tally with GST”. Department collaborates with International Skill Development Corporation from 2020 onwards to launch a much sought after and job-oriented high status course in ACCA along with B.Com.

      PG students secured 100% pass for the first 5 consecutive years highlighting the remarkable and academic teamwork of the faculty and students.

      Along with its mission of pursuing excellence in teaching and learning, the department also undertakes extra-curricular, cultural and recreational activities to enrich the creativity and innate talents of the students. Department also conducts Management Fests, debates, seminars etc every year
